Morningstar at The PumpHouse Theatre
THE WAR IN HEAVEN HAS JUST BEGUN!!!
One of the plays that was advertised by The PumpHouse Theatre was entitled, "Morningstar." When I saw it, I said to myself that it is a unique play that I have not heard of. This is the first time that this play was acted upon in a theatre. So, the curiousness heightened and I forced Ronald to watch it with me in June 2018. The story centres around the angels in heaven and their building issues with one another while their father was away. The timeline of the story started after earth was created and the Father has left heaven and nowhere to be found. The main setting of the play is Heaven and Eden.
Caveat: Spoilers Alert!!! If you have not watch this play... Please do not read this blog. I found this play unique and controversial in a sense that Lucifer was not portrayed as the devil. Although there is already a TV series that show that he could be good, there has not been any play that revolves around that storyline. This play is really different and provides another possibility of what could have happened during the creation of the first man and woman.
The conflict started when Michael wants to follow tradition and Lucifer wants change. Michael wants to uphold what was in the rules and regulations of the scripture left by The Father in his hands. On the other hand, Lucifer questions everything. He thinks that man created by the Father is not deserving of earth. He felt jealous of man. He cannot accept that the Father provided man with Eden and they are not allowed to visit it and only Gabriel can. This led to other angels choosing sides. Michael has Uriel and Raphael while Lucifer has Gabriel and Jophiel.
The famous apple |
In this play, Lucifer was the Father's favorite son/angel which is contrary to what is in reality. He was the reason why the angels divided themselves. He influenced his brothers and sisters to rally against the Father. He manipulated the minds of other angels. He removes the innocence of Jophiel. He elicit curiousness to Raphael so he can commit what the Father forbids. He made Uriel feel defeated so he can become angry and kill Jophiel. He challenged Michael in front of other angels. He used Gabriel's love for him to help him win his cause. In the end, he sacrificed himself so that the other angels will remain in heaven after realising that he must be "The One" to go in the dark so everything will be done according to the Father's will.
My favourite character is Raphael played by Richie Gryzb. The play was directed by Romy Hooper. Congrats, Romy! It is written by Albert Belz. I really admire him for creating a good play. His creativity has produced a stunning storyline that could provide a different view and possibility. All actors and actresses are really good. Bronwyn Turei (Gabriel) has a singing part which gave me goosebumps. Jacqui Nauman is really beautiful and shows real girl power. Marwin Silerio gave justice to his character as Uriel. Stephen Brunton gave a powerful performance as Michael and of course Blair Strang acted superbly as Lucifer.
We enjoyed watching the show. Thank you Morningstar and PumpHouse for this experience!!!
Happy and contented! |
