Mamma Mia the Musical 2018

I first stumble upon Mamma Mia in the year 2008 because of the film Mamma Mia! featuring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, etc. I never thought it was a musical performed in theater. I just realized that it is when it was shown in the Philippines International Convention Center (PICC).

Here in New Zealand, it was advertised that a Mamma Mia Musical will take place in Bruce Mason Centre in Takapuna. Out of excitement, Ronald and I decided to watch it 😉 Bruce Mason Centre is located at The Promenade, Takapuna Beach.

There is a parking place near the centre, the Wilson Parking. You can park also on the sides streets since after 6pm most parking spaces outside are free.

Before the day of the event, we visited the place to familiarize ourselves where would we be going, what entrance to take, where are the toilets, etc. What is nice about what we did is that we were able to meet the manager. He was so accommodating. Although I forgot to ask his name, he should be given a thumbs up for helping us even if he knows we are just there to do our canvass of the area.

Abba songs are featured in the play. I grew up hearing my father playing the album of Abba but I did not have any idea that their songs was used in a play/musical.

Before the program started, we went to the bar and bought Dancing Queen drink which is the best. We were able to bring home the plastic glass that shines different colour. I still use it at home whenever I feel drinking juice and soda :)

The show is almost the same as the movie. What makes me really impress was the props and how coordinated the scene change are. In the movie, you can have takes and retakes of one scene but in a live play everything is done in one shot. If you commit error, the audience will definitely notice.

Vocally speaking, the actors and actresses are all well-equipped with talent. They can belt their lungs out. They were able to give justice to their characters especially Jackie Clarke who plays Donna. I love it when she sang The Winner Takes It All. Moreover, Sammie Campbell was able to play the role of Sophie very well. We definitely enjoyed watching them perform live :) Congrats to Mamma Mia casts and crew :)
