Balloons Over Waikato

The balloons of Mighty Waikato :)

Last March 2018, My friends and I visited the famous "Balloons Over Waikato" at Innes Common in Hamilton Lake. I felt so bad due to my recent reaction to a whooping cough vaccine but that did not prevent me from going and seeing the majestic balloons soar up in the sky. The parking was not a problem. There are huge spaces that you can park your car. But of course, if you want to have the "bets ones," you have to come early. More-so, the event is free so you don't have to spend anything.

The program started around 0630hrs with a small balloon being put up into life. It was astonishing seeing young people commit to this kind of hobby.Apparently, this is a sports to them. I was amused because (of course) I did not know that it was a sport. My ignorance waving at me again. But according to the wisdom of elders, there is no specific and required time to learn something new. :)

Some of the balloons were just inflated for people to see. The others are assigned to fly out. Other people were able to ride it as well. Unfortunately, the wind was not enough that time that even fewer balloons were allowed to carry passengers and see the grandeur of Hamilton from above. The morning program focused on inflating all balloons one by one and the announcer provides a history why the owners decided to create this design. It gives also a history of when it was created and where are the places it has flown already. Moreover, the announcer also gives a brief mention of the qualifications and history of the person who piloted the balloons.

A lot of Kiwis pledged to witness this yearly celebration because of its charisma to children and adult alike. Apparently some of the programs were cancelled the previous day because of the bad weather. The organizers, however, were able to reschedule the Zuru Night Glow (supposed to be on Saturday - March 24) on Sunday (March 25). This is fascinating because news about the rescheduling were provided to people via social media. Speaking of weather, this event usually happens around autumn time so make sure to bring jackets and raincoats due to the unpredictable weather of New Zealand, where four seasons can happen in one day.

The event was satisfying. Most people had their breakfast on the site. If you forget your breakfast, there are some stalls that sell food and coffee. (Take note! New Zealand sells amazing coffee). Some people did lots of selfies. You can take good photos here so if you are a picture junkie make sure you go next year. The morning event just took two hours and a half so after the event you get a lot of time to roam Hamilton. Plenty of time to see Hamilton Gardens or visit Reserves and have an afternoon picnic.

The lovers :)

The balloons owners were able to show off their amazing talent and skills. The designs of the balloons were uniquely thought of. It is not just the usual hot air balloon that we accustomed of looking up to. There is a piranha balloon, a wizard with a cat balloon, a beaver, a boy and a girl and other colorful ones . I am excited to attend the event next year and see the new balloons that will be participating. See you there.
